Home of supreme champion Aberlour Gwalia, welsh pony (cob type)

Every third visitor on this web site is from countries outside of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. As a service for you who do not read Danish, this new site in English has been opened in January 2007.
We have a small breed of Welsh Ponies (Cob Type) in Roskilde, 40 kilometers from Copenhagen. Our stud was founded in 1994 when we purchased a four year old Welsh Cob brood mare from Marianne Seidenfaden, Dorthealyst. In the next four years this mare, Dorthealyst Radiance, had tree foals with Aberlour prefix before she unfortunately died, only 9 years old. Shortly after her death, a new cob mare, Rotherdale Lady Laura, was bought from Randi Christiansen. She too gave us tree foals – two by Cob stallions and one by the sec. C stallion Parvadean Reaction.
In the new millennium we started taking an interest in the Welsh Pony of Cob Type sec. C. When a naughty 2-year-old colt must be handled every day, the size of the sec. C ponies is to prefer to that of the Welsh Cobs – that is when the people are small! Therefore Lady Laura was sold to a Swedish breeder in 2002 and since 2004 we have only bred the Welsh Ponies of Cob Type.
Our first sec. C brood mare was Thorneyside Glamour Girl, foaled in 1987. It was a great luck that we got the chance to buy this fantastic pony from Randi Christiansen. All our mares have been used as brood mares as well as riding ponies for our two daughters. And Glamour Girl was not an exception. In her first two years at Aberlour she did her job as a show jumping pony – and she did it very well with great success in competitions for children up to 16 years. In 2003 she was covered by the Danish stallion Rytterbjergets Infinity and her first foal was the very “eye catching” chestnut filly Aberlour Gwalia, foaled in 2004.
Our current brood mares are Thorneyside Glamour Girl and the young Erw-Wastad Anna, purchased from Wales in 2003. At the moment, we use the stallion Nebo Rustler, who is by the legendary Nebo Daniel and full brother to the Nebo Stud’s successful and well-known mare Nebo Rachel. These tree adult ponies are the foundation of our stud and they are all graded in Denmark with fine judgments.
Nebo Rustler has sired a few foals until now, and they all turned out very well. They are very good movers and typical sec. C ponies with a good temperament. Because he has a stallion license in the Welsh Pony & Cob Society as well as the Danish grading, his progeny can be registered in both Great Britain and Denmark, depending on the wish of the owners of the mares.
Some of our young stock are for sale, but two fillies are selected to be our brood mares in the future: Aberlour Gwalia and Rhyd-Ddu Glenys, who has been purchased from Wales in 2006. The others will be sold as riding- and driving ponies or for show and breeding. If you are interested in more information about the ponies for sale, please contact us by phone or Email.
Usually, we show some of the young stock at small local shows for foals and young stock one or two times a year, and we also participate in the annual Danish grading show in August.
All our ponies have their own site with judgments from various shows (in Danish, sorry!), photos and a four generation pedigree. There are links to all the ponies below. On the site of the brood mares and the stallion there are links to another four generations of the pedigree. The blood lines are very old. In the 8th generation, many of them go back to the late 1880-1890 before the Welsh Pony & Cob Society was founded. We have had a good help from Dr. Wynne Davies’ book Welsh Ponies and Cobs to finish this work. When you look at the pedigree, you will see that all our ponies are related to Wales' most important and famous Welsh Ponies and Cobs.
The most successful of our ponies is the home bred Aberlour Gwalia, who has won many 1st prizes and championships at shows in Denmark and Sweden. Look on the Result List (Danish text) to see the results.
You can look at all the Welsh Ponies and Cobs with Aberlour prefix on this link: Aberlour Ponies and you see the ponies we have purchased from other breeders here: Welsh Ponies. Visitors are always welcome at our stud, but please contact us by phone or Email first.
We are very enthusiastic with our digital camera but not all pictures will be saved on the ponies’ “personal” site. Look in the Photo Catalogue to see a selection of pictures from life with welsh ponies.
